02:39 25 Aug [Stand News]: Kwai Fong Shutters Down, Reporters Pushed by Police, Roy Tam’s Assistant Arrested
During the Tsuen Wan Kwai Fong Tsing Yi rally today, MTR announced that Kwai Fong, Tsuen Wan and Tsuen Wan West MTR stations were to close at 13.30. At around 13.00, a large group of police showed up at Kwai Fong station and forcefully pushed reporters out of the station in order to roll down the shutters. During the mayhem, New Democrat and a District Councillor Roy Tam Hoi-pong’s assistant was arrested.
Tam came to Kwai Fong today. He thought that a lot of people pass through the station, and the deed of title also stated that the station has to remain open. He was not happy with MTR’s decision to close the station.
Around 13:45, a large group of police ushered the reporters out of the station and rolled down the shutters. During thst time a police officer argued with and later swore at a reporter. The police also pushed the reporter.
Tam said that his black-clad assistant was only there to film the situation, and then he was arrested, Which Tam described as “very ridiculous”. Reporters were able to film a black-clad arrested in the station through an opening on the shutter. The man is bleeding from the corner of his mouth.
